Purchase Fanfare

Fanfare for Brass Quintet was commissioned in 2001 by the State University of New York at Stony Brook to celebrate the opening of the University’s new Music Library. It is my quirky and whimsical interpretation of a brass fanfare!

Fanfare was premiered at the library’s opening on November 28, 2001 by the Metropolitan Brass Quintet.

“This work is unique and interesting. After an initial readthrough, it is apparent that the work demands significant rehearsal time to not only address the individual technical challenges of the parts, but also to create the musical cohesiveness of the smaller sections. Lindquist’s work includes moments that are at the same time foreign and familiar, interspersing the essence of traditional fanfaresque calls and rhythms, with decidedly non-traditional melodic lines and harmonies. At times, it seems she may be quoting other works, but at the same time, those gestures are fresh and the similarity is fleeting.

There are many elements to this piece that make it worth sinking your teeth into, and provided you have the right occasion; it certainly would be an impressive and original addition to your program.”
