Øyvind Gimse, solo cello

From Øyvind:
I had my first encounter with Bach’s cello suites when I was 11 years old. I may not have understood much of the music, but my father was enthusiastic. I sat in his study and practiced, while he corrected physics tests and smoked a pipe. He had heard his astronomy professor play Bach in the observatory tower at Blindern, a silo-like building with enormous acoustics. I tried to imagine what it might sound like, Bach under the starry sky. I have retained this wonder when it comes to Bach, and the suites are constantly changing. I try to approach all kinds of music with the same curiosity, and at the concert I will mix in some Norwegian pieces between the Bach suites. Pieces by Ludvig Mathias Lindeman, Øistein Sommerfeldt and Gjermund Larsen will be heard, and Ellen Lindquist’s piece “Gaia” fits perfectly with Bach’s dance movements and my wonder under the stars.

NTNU Research concert: Music in landscape, and landscape in music

NTNU Forskningskonsert: Musikk i landskap og landskap i musikk
Dokkhuset, lørdag 3. februar kl. 14

Medvirkende:
Tore Størvold
Kim Arvid Leon Tran
Ellen Lindquist
Viktor Gosvali Wilhelmsen

Fem Elementer/Five Elements

Fire komponister. Ett ensemble.
Fem elementer!

Luft: Ola Kvernberg
Jord: Ellen Lindquist
Vann: Eirik Hegdal
Void: SiTron

för levande och döda
SiTron with Kathleen Flynn and Karl Peter Eriksson

SiTron (Sinfonietta i Trondheim) will perform the music from “För levande och döda”, with singers Kathleen Flynn and Karl Peter Eriksson.

Tomas Tranströmer’s poems form the foundation of “för levande och döda” —a devised music-theater work commissioned by Companion Star and Foundry Arts. Ellen Lindquist composed the work using a collaborative, improvisation-based process to develop material with a dedicated international ensemble of musicians and artists. All development work centered around Tranströmer’s work, in a series of development workshops in New York and Västerås/Ängsö, Sweden.

“för levande och döda” is an evening-length piece which moves fluidly through nine of Tranströmer’s remarkable poems, varying from intimate solo and small ensemble moments to full ensemble work.

On Saturday 31 August, in Olavshallen’s Lillesalen, SiTron will present a concert performance of “för levande och döda”, with singers Kathleen Flynn (Canada) and Karl Peter Eriksson (Sweden). Marte Huke will open the evening by introducing us to Tomas Tranströmer’s poetry.

Instrumentation: soprano and bass singers; flute/alto flute, oboe/English horn, clarinet, bass clarinet; trombone; harp, piano, percussion; violin, cello, contrabass)
