KODE og BIT20: Lyd, stillhet og mellomrom

I am thrilled that KODE’s Composer-in-residence, Rebecka Sofia Ahvenniemi, has programmed my work Zonnebloem (Sunflower) for solo clarinet on this concert, and thrilled that Joshua Rubin will perform it! It will be a fabulous program, under the title “Sound, silence and the spaces between”.
ARTISTER:
BIT20 strykekvartett: Liene Klava (bratsj), Jutta Morgenstern (fiolin), Agnese Rugevica (cello) og Martin Schulz (fiolin).
Knut Christian Jansson, Piano
Joshua Nathan Rubin, klarinett

Webinar with composer Ellen Lindquist

NTNU Department of Music welcomes you to a webinar with composer Ellen Lindquist, interviewed by fellow composer Odd Johan Overøye. After the initial presentation, there will be a Q&A part where participants in the audience may ask questions. The webinar will be held in English and participation is free.
Meeting ID: 961 2884 0769
Passcode: 303915
Ellen Lindquist was Composer-in-Residence at NTNU’s Department of Music in 2019-2020. In this webinar, she will show and discuss the projects that she worked with during that period, in conversation with composer Odd Johan Overøye. In addition to discussing the new structured-improvisation piece she made for Institute for Music students during fall 2020, Ellen will talk about “Eit underliggjande landskap drikk av himmelen”, a collaborative work for Trondheim’s Alpaca Trio with new texts by Margrethe Aas; “Doctora”, a new work for Kammerkoret Aurum with text by Svanhild Amdal Telnes; and her EDVARD prize-nominated piece carillon for Nordic Music Days 2019, “The Sacredness of Trees”.
About our webinar: NTNU Department of Music has over the past years presented a concert series called NTNU Forskningskonserter (NTNU Research Concerts), where faculty members have presented their research in concert form. The concerts have differed from the pure concert form to more of a lecture form, or a cross between the two – the main focus being on the faculty member finding the form that presents their research in the best way. As corona restrictions has made physical concerts difficult to plan for, we have decided to explore the webinar form as an option for our faculty to present research and artistic work. This is the first webinar in the series.

This first Pacific Rim solo flute concert is a co-presentation between Redshift Music Society and the Beaty Museum, and will be a part of the Museum’s “Nocturnal” series, taking place during its opening extended hours. The Beaty Museum is a striking space, boasting a 25-metre skeleton of a blue whale, suspended above the ramp that leads down to the main collections (the performance will, in fact, take place immediately beneath the whales tail — you can see images of the musuem HERE, if you’re curious). Each piece on the programme reflects on one of the museum’s permanent exhibits:

Pedro Alvarez – De Mares Imaginados (for the museum’s fish & marine invertebrate collection);
Kaiyi Kao – Jingzhe (for the insects collection);
Ellen Lindquist – Nakoda (for the tetrapods – mammals collection);
Nova Pon – Wrenegade (for the tetrapods – birds collection);
Phil Brownlee – Harakeke (for the herbarium collection);
Graham Flett – Stratus and Shale (for the museum’s fossils collection).

Huskonsertene i Rissa presenterer:
Marianne Baudouin Lie, ‘Med cello’n og stemmen’

Marianne Baudouin Lie
Marianne Baudouin Lie

(wikipedia)

Premiere: Birds

Cecilia Ekman and Roger Johansson will premiere a new piece of mine titled ‘Vingarna breddas’ (‘The wings spread’) for the latest addition to Cecilia’s ongoing concert project titled ‘Birds’. This will be the first time that she has commissioned new works as part of this project; there will also be a new work by her duo partner Roger Johansson on the concert. Slides of Hans Falklind‘s remarkable bird photographs play a central part in the creation process and in the performance.

‘Vingarna breddas’ (as well as this project overall) focuses on bird protection work, in particular for the Eurasian Skylark. Collaborators for Birds include Sveriges Ornitologiska Förening and BirdLife International. ‘Vingarna breddas’ is based on the poem ‘Preludium’ by Tomas Tranströmer.

Water: Ten Photo-Musical Fantasies

A program of new works for piano trio with the overarching theme of ‘water.’ Each newly-composed work is inspired by a photograph by one of a group of photographers. My work Groundings is the exception on the program; it already exists as a piece (which I have rescored for piano trio for this event). American photographer Jeanne Faget created a new photograph based on my music.

The concert is conceived of and curated by Lynn Hutchinson. The proceeds from the concerts will support a Dutch charity working on international water issues.

Presented by Songfaucet, performed by Emma Breedveld, violin; Eva van de Poll, cello; Lynn Hutchinson, piano. Click here for more information.
